Those predicting the “long goodbye” of Boeing’s 747 may have jumped the gun. Just weeks on from Delta parking the last of its 747s, UPS appears to have given the aircraft a stay of execution, putting in an order for 14 freighters. The Seattle Times reports the order will provide two years of production for the airplane nicknamed the “Queen of the Skies”. While Delta’s decision marked the (foreseeable) end of 747 passenger services, this order adds to the 11 freighter orders (also placed by UPS) Boeing already has on its books.
