Feeder and shortsea specialist carrier Unifeeder has struck a deal with Norwegian paper mill Ranheim Paper & Board to transport around 600 containers a year of paper from Trondheim, via the port of Drammen, to Vienna via rail on carriage from Rotterdam.
Hitherto, around 14,000 trucks a year have been used to transport the 15,000 tonnes of paper via ferry and road. The new agreement will see trucks used for only the first and last miles of the transport – down from 2,400km to just 24km – saving an estimated 1,816 tonnes annually of CO2 emissions.
