We don’t want to depress you, but this is one of the more miserable articles about air freight. With rates down 15-20% compared with last year, carriers are in shock – Lufthansa’s CEO called it a “landslide”. Buried in this article, however, is a sentence saying that Lufthansa is “looking at dealing with customers directly rather than via freight forwarders” – a public admission that in the past has caused furore. It could, however, simply be referring to the carrier’s latest product – to ship passengers’ personal goods. It ends with the note that even the pharma business is looking to transfer to sea freight. Grim times.
