On 28 April 2015, while transiting the Strait of Hormuz en route from Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) to Jebel Ali (UAE) and in international waters, the vessel Maersk Tigris was approached and seized by Iranian patrol boats. The time-charter vessel was deployed on Maersk Line’s ME3 service (Black Sea Persian Gulf). The vessel was escorted towards Bandar Abbas in Iran by Iranian patrol boats.
The crew is safe and under the circumstances in good spirits. Rickmers Shipmanagement and Maersk are working in close dialogue to obtain information about the seizure and explore options to help resolve this situation. The vessel carries general cargo and has a capacity of 5, 466 teu. It was built in 2014 and sails under the Marshall Islands flag.
