Small ports feel the heat from big box ships as cascade effect begins

With the first of Maersk’s Triple-E container ships, the Maersk McKinney Moller, due to be officially delivered to the line tomorrow by shipbuilder Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering, a new round of vessel cascading is set to test port limits around the world.

    Isn’t it time for small, mid-sized and some large ports to come together to tell the shippers what size ships are appropriate rather than shippers telling Ports to spend public money to accommodate monster ships? Doesn’t anyone remember the US lines bubble?
