Maryland state transport secretary Greg Slater has appointed former FMC commissioner William Doyle as the new executive director of Port of Baltimore.
Mr Doyle will begin in his new role on July 22.
With nearly three decades of experience in the transport and energy sectors, Mr Doyle become well known in internationally between 2013 and 2018, when he served on the Federal Maritime Commission and represented the US in numerous global negotiations, co-chairing maritime trade discussions with China, the EU, Panama and Greece.
After his departure from the FMC, he served as chief executive of the Dredging Contractors of America.
“With a distinguished career in the maritime industry and international trade, I am confident that Bill Doyle will lead the port of Baltimore in driving Maryland’s economy forward,” said state governor Larry Hogan.
Mr Slater added: “Bill has experience with major infrastructure projects that will prove invaluable as the port continues to work with its private sector partners and the Baltimore community to deliver generational projects. From global negotiations to working with Congress to fund critical dredging projects, Bill understands all the elements needed to propel the port of Baltimore to the next level.”
