Fortunately strikes and industrial actions at container ports are much less common than in the past but the worsening situation at Montreal is a throwback to the bad old days of supply chain uncertainty from port strikes or arguably much worse the possibility of industrial action.
This customer advisory from Hapag-Lloyd highlights the frustration that has led to several vessel diversions so far and of course considerable extra costs to shippers, carriers and all stakeholders.
