Spectacular photos of two sections of the MOL Comfort  – afloat, but apart – in the Indian Ocean lead this story from gCaptain. How a container ship, only five years old, came to break up in heavy seas is something for the class society – in this case Japan’s NKK – and investigators to determine, but some possible causes are identified. In any event, the casualty will prove distracting for the G6 Alliance members – the ship was deployed on its Loop 1 Asia-Europe service –  who today will also be figuring out how to respond to the news of the impending operational alliance between Maersk, CMA CGM and MSC, but are likely to call General Average on the ship and cargo.
