Criminals in Mexico move faster than freight companies, according to Mexico News Daily, which has reported that 20 thefts from trains take place each day. In the past 10 years, truck thefts have risen 100%, while cargo thefts from trains has risen by more than 1,000%. However, owing to a weak federal legal system, it is very hard to stop the thieves, who apply the braking system on trains or block the rails. Companies such as Mazda and Honda have threatened to pull out of the country if the situation doesn’t improve.
