Fascinating look at WinCo, an Idaho-based low-cost food store that is undercutting Walmart on price, and in terms of its treatment of workers. Its approach to securing low-cost goods has been to deal directly with food producers, thereby cutting out distributors and wholesalers with the result that: “While many supermarkets strive to keep within a few percentage points of Walmart stores’ prices, WinCo Foods often undersells the massive discount chain.”
