New Postal DDP (PDDP) service ensures seamless delivery to the US despite recent customs changes
-
Designed for e-commerce retailers, the service combines cost-efficiency, full clearance and complete coverage
29 October 2025. Spring GDS has launched a new Postal Delivered Duty Paid (PDDP) shipping solution to the United States. Offering e-commerce businesses a reliable and customs-compliant alternative in response to recent regulatory changes.
The move comes in response to major regulatory changes including the removal of the US $800 de minimis threshold in August 2025. With all shipments into the US now subject to duties and taxes, Spring GDS has moved to ensure that international e-commerce can continue with confidence.
Built on a direct agreement between PostNL, Spring GDS’s parent company, and the US Postal Service (USPS), the new PDDP solution offers a fully customs-cleared, cost-effective, and highly predictable way to ship goods from Europe into the United States. The service is designed for modern online retailers who value speed, clarity, and compliance.
Key features of the Postal DDP (PDDP) service
The PDDP service provides a clear advantage in the post–de minimis landscape by ensuring all customs duties are paid in advance. This means consumers in the US receive their parcels without surprise charges at the point of delivery, delays, or abandoned carts caused by unclear fees. Duties are calculated transparently, based solely on product value and country-of-origin tariffs under the IEEPA framework, providing predictability for businesses and customers alike.
The service is powered by the reliability of USPS for last-mile delivery, ensuring nationwide coverage across the United States, including Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico, and other US territories.
Pricing is optimised for lightweight parcels, making the solution particularly suitable for e-commerce brands that ship smaller, high-frequency items.
Seamless integration has also been a central design feature. Businesses can manage and track all shipments to various destinations directly from one unified platform, simplifying operations while maintaining full visibility across the entire delivery chain.
For businesses dealing with higher-value shipments, Spring GDS also offers a Commercial DDP service for items over $800 (€680). This solution is fully managed by Spring GDS, which coordinates shipping, customs clearance, and final-mile delivery through selected third-party providers, offering the same reliability but with additional flexibility for larger or more complex consignments.
Together, the Postal and Commercial DDP services reflect Spring GDS’s commitment to flexibility, helping businesses choose the model that best fits their scale, product mix, and customer base.
Future-proofing e-commerce shipping
The introduction of the PDDP solution underlines Spring GDS’s determination to maintain continuity for cross-border e-commerce in a changing regulatory environment. It ensures that online retailers can continue shipping to one of the world’s most valuable consumer markets with full compliance and without unnecessary complexity.
“At Spring GDS, our focus is on empowering cross-border e-commerce through solutions that simplify complexity,” said Thijs Boel, Managing Director of Spring Europe. “With PDDP, together with our commercial solution.’
UK MD Kelly van der Weg added, ‘We’re offering our customers a clear path forward—combining compliance, transparency, and efficient delivery even amid major regulatory shifts.”
