The British International Freight Association (Bifa) is set to launch a networking group for young forwarders in the UK.
Launching early next month, the Bifa Young Forwarders Network (YFN) will aim to improve the promotion of forwarding as a sector for new recruits and assist in their training.
Training development manager Carl Hobbis said the launch was set to coincide with the 12th National Apprenticeship Week from 4-8 March.
“Throughout the week we will be taking to social media to share tips and advice with both employers and employees interested in learning more about industry apprenticeships.”
According to the association, all apprentices participating in the International Freight Forwarding Specialist Apprenticeship scheme will automatically be invited to join. And membership of the YFN will count towards the 20% off-the-job learning that apprentices must complete. Membership is free.
Mr Hobbis said the idea of the YFN was to create regional networking groups, run by young forwarders, and designed to help early talent develop knowledge and professional skills.
“Initially, we will start with regional groups at London Heathrow; as well as in the north-west, the Midlands, East Anglia and the south-east – with more regions to follow,” he said.
“Each networking group will have a chair and vice-chair, and we will create a local organising committee governed by at least two regional employers, as well as a BIFA representative.
“So far, every employer I’ve asked to get involved has been very supportive and extremely positive about its concept, the more that get involved the better,” he said.
