Equipment to maintain cold chain supply in areas of the Philippines devastated by Hurricane Yolanda will be donated to 450 healthcare facilities run by the country’s Department of Health. This includes 4,000 vaccine carriers, 800 cold boxes, 400 back-up generator systems,150 ice-lined refrigerators and 50 solar-powered refrigerators, alongside 200 Sure Chill freezers which will allow the facilities to operate for more than ten days without electricity. Plans also include the construction of 16 walk-in cold rooms where three million doses of measles/rubella and oral polio vaccines will be stored.
