DB Schenker has posted a blog on the air freight market, with five “important trends”.
Head of air freight Americas, Asok Kumar, noted that shippers should watch for these trends: there may not be a peak season, although there is a slight uptick in volumes right now. Rates will stay flat in 2020. Trade wars will continue to effect the market; and a hard Brexit could be a problem. He finishes with changes in China, which could lead to bottlenecks in countries such as Vietnam and Thailand.
Despite this series of problems, Mr Kumar remains “cautiously optimistic”. “From the market data we’re seeing and the feedback that we’re receiving, it looks as if we might see some improvement over 2019. There are definitely a lot of external factors that will play into it, so we’ll just have to wait and see.”
