Vietnam could be one of the core beneficiaries of the China-US stand-off, at least according to this piece in Newsweek. The report claims that Q1 imports from Vietnam into the US rose more than 40%. The speed of growth has been so sharp, the South-east Asian country could soon overtake the UK as the the US’s seventh-largest supplier. Similarly buoyed by trade tensions is South Korea, which recorded an 18.4% uptick in US imports over the three months to April. At the same time, China witnessed a steep drop-off in US demand, with imports down 13.9%.
