United Arab Shipping Company has appointed Stuart Sandlin president of its North American organisation.

Mr Sandlin will be responsible for spearheading the company’s growth across the continent, focusing on “improving the customer experience by offering a more personalised service and ensuring a deep understanding of individual customer needs”.

He joins from Hapag-Lloyd America, where he was senior vice president of sales and customer service and responsible for the commercial organisation. Prior to joining the liner shipping sector he held managerial positions with Danzas, BAX Global and Expeditors, and has a Masters in Logistics from Georgia Tech.

He said: “We recognise there is a gap in high-quality service in the liner shipping marketplace today. UASC aims to close this gap by ensuring our customers get proactive communication, timely and accurate documentation and invoices and swift problem resolution. By doing this UASC will become the high-service alternative in liner shipping.”

UASC chief commercial officer Uffe Østergaard added: “We are delighted to welcome Stuart to the global leadership team – his deep knowledge of the industry and strong leadership skills will play a very active role in shaping UASC’s global commercial strategy.”
