No one wants to give a forecast only for it to be repeated a couple of months later. Especially not in this economic environment. Nevertheless, in June The Loadstar interviewed Mathijs Slangen, senior analyst at Seabury for ocean freight. And Mr Slangen was anticipating a relatively strong second half – but mostly because the year-on-year figures would look pretty good after a dismal fourth quarter in 2011. And although there had been no signs of a peak yet, he estimated it would be a “normal” peak season.

He also talks about market issues including the move to near-sourcing – analysis that not all consultants at the event agreed with – the growth of emerging markets and the lack of infrastructure to support it, and the containerisation of bulk. All interesting stuff.
