There’s been lots of news from Africa this week. First off, there is a local battle between East African retailers, eyeing opportunities as local purchasing power grows. Perhaps more interestingly, the World Bank has issued a report on African agribusiness, showing how it could triple to become a $1 trillion industry by 2030 – if the right support is there. “Africa is at a crossroads,” it states. Measures it recommends include more cross-border food trade by reducing check points and tackling bribery along main freight corridors.
