In her latest blog, ATW editor Karen Walker looks into the growth of US protectionism in aviation. She touches on the 300% import duties the US commerce department recommended imposing on Bombardier, as well as the long-running dispute between US and Gulf carriers, and notes a startlingly varied position from Delta on both matters. The Gulf issue is a dispute Ms Walker believes may be coming to a head. While she’s reticent to call the outcome, she does note the confidence with which the US companies are addressing the situation: “confident they have the ear of president Donald Trump”.
