The Panama Canal has retaken the top spot from the Suez Canal, according to Alphaliner. With capacity up 20% on the Asia-US east coast tradelane, it hit a record high this month. Due in part to the west coast congestion problems, the six biggest east coast ports saw a 14% rise n volumes in the first five months, year on year, while the six largest west coast ports saw a 3% dip. Rates, however, remain miserable.
