Shanghai Pudong Int’l Airport Cargo Terminal Co Ltd. (PACTL) set a new record for freight volumes in 2015. It achieved overall tonnage growth of 6.47% year-on-year, having processed nearly 1.6 million tonnes of air freight. This result enabled the company to beat the previous annual record set in 2014.

PACTL’s overall import cargo volumes increased by 8.9% compared with the previous year and rose to a total figure of 651,657 tonnes of air cargo. International imports soared by 9.4% to 602,004 tonnes and domestic imports increased by 4.2% to 49,653 tonnes.

The export cargo volumes grew by 4.8% to a figure of 947,654 tonnes in total. International exports showed a growth rate of 4.4% to 892,223 tonnes and domestic exports increased by 11.5% to 55,431 tonnes.

“Despite difficult market conditions, we were able to develop our business fully in line with our expectations. This is evident, for example, in the ongoing growth in international imports, which was caused by the rising demand for imported consumer goods such as perishables, pharmaceuticals and other high-value articles” says Lutz Grzegorz, Vice President of PACTL.

As a result of these positive developments, PACTL was able to further increase its market share in 2015. The company processed 49.4 percent of the air cargo handled at Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) in 2015, an increase of 1.4 percent in comparison with 2014. Right now, PACTL is in the final steps of testing its new end-to-end cool chain facility. Trial operations started in November 2015.
