No more than a month after securing the title as the youngest boxship to be scrapped, the panamax class Rickmers India has already lost it to the Hammonia Grenada. Delivered in 2010, the 4,250 teu Grenada, at less than seven years old, has been sold as scrap for approximately $5.5m to a Bangladeshi shipbreaker. Maritime Executive said the demolition was confirmation of the plummeting value of panamax vessels following last year’s opening of the expanded Panama Canal.
