The dangers in Calais for migrants, hauliers and train operators are increasing. This morning it was reported that an Eritrean man died as he tried to get on a moving Eurotunnel freight train. Last week’s strikes by MyFerryLink staff over the sale of its ferries to DFDS exacerbated the situation and caused congestion at the port, while migrants tried to take advantage of slow-moving lorries. The situation is said to be getting desperate – and could be worsened by the threat of further strikes.
