This story made us laugh: in the 1960s, a penniless Australian athlete posted himself home (cash-on-delivery), from the UK in a crate on an Air India flight. It took three days, and he found himself at one point upside down on the tarmac in Mumbai – “hot as hell” – for four hours. He then had to escape from Perth airport. He found some tools in the bonded shed and cut through the wall. A fun read.
