Courtesy of Lloyd’s List’s correspondents in Hong Kong, comes one of the first reports on the forthcoming future of the Maersk’s Triple-E 18,000teu vessels, which are due to begin being delivered this year. As more units come out of the shipyard over the next 18 months, a full triple-E-only service is expected to be launched sometime around mid-1014. The current thinking is that the additional capacity will not drive down rates on this route, but the displacement of existing tonnage off Asia-Europe to intra-Asia routes may cause rate depression on these secondary trades.
