UK industry association the Rail Freight Group (RFG) has named Joe O’Donnell (pictured above) as its new head of policy.
Maggie Simpson, RFG director general, said: “I am delighted Joe is joining our team to focus on the vital policy agenda for rail freight. His appointment will strengthen our team and allow us to better support our members in key topics such as decarbonisation, the Williams Review and regional devolution.
“His support will be invaluable in helping our members.”
Mr O’Donnell joins the RFG after two-and-a-half years in a similar role at the non-profit Heritage Alliance and a five-year stint as a writer on policy and employment at Thompson Reuters.
“It’s an exciting time for the rail freight sector as more retailers look to take goods off the roads and invest in more environmentally friendly ways of moving their freight.
“We have a new government promising significant investment in transport infrastructure and our challenge will be to help hold those promises to account,” he said.
