Oregon’s beef exports to Japan doubled to 3.2m pounds in 2013, the first year since officials eased restrictions on US beef exports. The rise has been attributed to a joint marketing campaign by The Oregon Beef Council, its counterparts in Washington and Idaho, and the US Meat Export Federation, to promote beef to Japan’s grocery and food sectors. “The results have been even better than we projected and by working together we are making a significant impact in the Japanese market,” said Cevin Jones, an Idaho Beef Council board member and vice-chairman of the Federation of State Beef Councils. An similar campaign is planned for this year.
