With initiatives by the Indian government and a steep growth in the consumption of processed foods, cold chain logistics will witness huge growth in the coming years to tackle the 40% of annual produce losses caused by a lack of cool rooms and refrigerated transport. While the country is the second largest producer of fruits and vegetables in the world, it can only store some 11% of what it actually grows in modern cold chain facilities. But with annual 20% growth in the business predicted over the next few years the government has announced a series of measure to improve the perishable supply chain.
