While it can be difficult to ascertain the validity of various indices and data, according to WorldACD, perishables more than maintained volumes in the air cargo sector in September. This was accompanied by a 1.6% yield improvement over August. In its analysis of the trends, World ACD also looks at the impact of currency fluctuations on the industry, and reveals that a drop in exchange rates in Japan and Brazil had a surprising effect: Japan’s air cargo volumes contracted on both exports and imports, while Brazil lost outbound traffic but saw an 8% rise inbound. The question, of course, is why? Dodgy data or unique market machinations?
