US export consultancy and Halal meat specialist, Midamar Corp, appears to be in hot water. Last year the company was indicted on charges of selling mislabelled meat that was not slaughtered according to Halal standards, but exported nevertheless to Malaysia, Indonesia and Kuwait. However, things seems to have got worse. Midamar was acting as export consultant to the Herz Corporation, which was sending a shipping container to Syria, with various household supplies. However, it was seized by authorities and found to contain 152 guns and 16,300 rounds of ammunition. Midamar argued it is contracted for logistics services, but is not responsible for content nor inspection of inventory. The question now is whether that clears Midamar of negligence. An interesting case.
