The indications from Europe’s largest economy are less than encouraging. German firms and employers are battening down the hatches as orders from both within and outside the Eurozone decline. Firms are hiring less and some major companies, such as Bosch and Thyssenkrupp have announced the reintroduction of the kurzarbeit system – the government subsidised shorter working hours.
