Freightos has poached IAG Cargo’s Camilo Garcia as its global vice president for business development.
Mr Garcia was director of sales, marketing and products for the cargo carrier for nearly two years. Prior to that he was head of global key accounts, following several commercial roles at British Airways, which he joined in 1988.
Mr Garcia will be responsible for heading up carrier relationships at Freightos’s WebCargo.
Commenting on his appointment in a blog post, he said it had been an “exciting (yet difficult) decision”.
“Personally, I feel the best way to truly digitise global freight is for logistics industry experts to crossover into the technology world. Knowledge transfer is critical.
“From where I’ve sat, it seems cargo and technology have been operating on parallel tracks. Despite good intentions and a real commitment to bring global shipping online, this siloed approach has had limited wins.
“I’m excited to contribute my industry expertise to bridge this knowledge gap, helping tech companies like Freightos continue to support cargo innovation, but doing so increasingly as an industry insider, not an external force.”
