Forwarder’s Cargo Receipts are commonly issued to Chinese exporters by forwarders, on receipt of goods for local charges – most often requested by buyers who want to take a more active control over multiple shipments on FOB terms. But under China Maritime Code this practice can leave forwarders exposed to cargo liabilities they would not normally expect, warns transport insurer TT Club, and given the Chinese courts’ general bias towards its exporters, the Club suggests a number of precautions to take.
