Fiata, together with insurer TT Club, has announced the winners of the regional Young International Freight Forwarder of the Year Award (Yiffya) 2019.
Sovfracht’s Evgenniya Khokhlova took home the award for Europe, with Panalpina’s Rachael van Harmelen winning for the Americas. Philip Burgess of Burnard International won for Asia Pacific, leaving former PIL – now Bollore recruit – Enos Chapra to walk away with the award for Africa and the Middle East.
President of Fiata, Babar Badat, praised the winners, and said he hoped to see their success encourage more youngsters to join the profession.
“Encouraging more young professionals to join the Fiata community has always been a priority for me and I am encouraged again to see these excellent candidates presenting dissertations that cover a wide range of logistic subjects, which demonstrate the challenges that forwarders face every day and the customised solutions they are able to offer,” he said.
The winners will be invited to address the Fiata World Congress in Cape Town later this year to present their dissertations.
Mike Yarwood, TT Club’s senior loss prevention executive, said: “In the current challenging global trade environment, where supply chains are under increasing pressure to adapt quickly to regulatory, political and economic pressures, we at TT Club believe the training and professional advancement of young freight operators must be paramount.”
“This award aims to contribute to the development of quality professionals and reward young talent.”
During the World Congress, the judges will make their final decision on the overall young forwarder of the year.
