Drones, parcelkopters and airships – it’s been a good month for stories on the future of aviation and airfreight delivery. This website takes a look at past developments in aviation, from the ‘Spruce Goose’ to the ‘Whistling Wheelbarrow’ – some surprising shapes can take flight. What is perhaps most noticeable is that most of the projects took off with military funding, and the Cold War and all its rivalry triggered much of this development. With military might far less impressive these days, can the private sector put up enough cash for future developments?
