The launch of direct flights to Seoul by Ethiopian Airlines may open up a whole new export market for Ethiopia’s horticultural sector. Direct flights between Addis Ababa and the Korean capital were scheduled to begin on 17 June. The Ethiopian carrier, already the largest cargo operator and one of the fastest growing airlines in Africa, has also recently announced plans to invest in four more B777 freighters, as well as to build one of the world’s largest cargo terminals at its Addis Ababa hub, with an annual storage capacity of 1.2 million tonnes for dry and perishable goods. Ethiopian Airlines currently operates freighters to 24 destinations in Africa, the Middle East, Europe and Asia through its two hubs in Addis Ababa and Liege, Belgium.
