It turns out that tragic Costa Concordia, which capsized in 2012, was not just a passenger ship, but a combination carrier, as they say in the air transport world, meaning it also carried freight: in this case, Mafia-owned cocaine. The Italian press reports that MSC too has been used by a Calabrian crime syndicate. An Italian crime boss under investigation by police was heard saying: “The same ship that made [Italians] a laughing stock around the world, took the piss out of us, too.”
