A damning Associated Press report that comes via Manufacturing.net, which suggests that some of the largest global clothing brands rejected stricter safety regimes in Bangladesh on the grounds that it would cost more. Labour groups argue that government inspections – which unscrupulous factory owners find easy to corrupt – should be ditched in favour of an independent inspectorate. With the death toll now having risen to over 300 the pressure for higher standards is bound to mount.
