Maersk CEO Soren Skou has said he does not expect to see large autonomous ships operating in his lifetime. Mr Skou, 53, told Bloomberg that “even if the technology advances, I don’t expect we will be allowed to sail around with 400-metre long containerships, weighing 200,000 tonnes without any human beings on board.” The line said it had cut crew sizes already as much as possible, and that it sees little cost benefit in further reductions.
