Shortly after this interview with shipping publication Fairplay, the Chilean container shipping line released its third-quarter results, which recorded a $46.7m loss. That notwithstanding, the company is continuing its strategy of attacking its cost base while freight rates remain as weak as they are. That strategy has also included a renewed focus on its core north-south trades – which have, unfortunately, become subject to some severe rate erosion as a result of larger vessels being cascaded off the main east-west trades.
