Not every airline made a loss last year – some adapted far better than others. Taiwan’s China Airlines made a quick switch to focus fully on cargo, which resulted in a $76.3m operating profit for the year, with cargo revenue rising 87% year on year, according to FlightGlobal. Not only did it make the most of its 14-strong 747-400 freighter fleet, but it has also operated more than 1,000 cargo flights a month since April 2020 on passenger aircraft, and has further developed its e-commerce platform, while its passenger division is focusing on charter flights for now.
