Specialised reefer group 360 Quality Association has announced it has joined the UNFAO’s Save Food Initiative to combat waste in the international supply chain by boosting logistics efficiency.
The FAO estimates up to 50% of fruits and vegetables produced each year are wasted, with failings in transport and distribution accounting for as much as 20% of this loss in specific regions of the world.
“Food should not be wasted in a world where shortage is just around the corner; yet too often it is,” said Walter Wildoer, chairman of the 360 Quality Association. “With more than 150 reefer ships certified for exemplary quality from six different operators and 16 service providers all over the world in all the right places, we think we can make a difference.”
