In Tanzania, the prime minister has become involved in the investigation of how thousands of import containers managed to avoid duty payments before being cleared at Dar Es Salaam. Local media report his office is now taking apart a report that the Tanzania Ports Authority had prepared on the fraud. Reading between the lines, it would appear someone is about to be hung out to dry. While on a personal visit to the port, the prime minister “witnessed some anomalies while in the scanning room and discovered a manifest showing one of the containers was loaded with diapers while the scanned picture showed the container was full of electricity gadgets”.
