The Panama Canal is asking for industry feedback on plans to adjust its toll structure. The administrator of the canal authority has spent the past few months talking to customers, after which the authority decided to provide additional incentives for containerships, to revise tolls for LPG and LNG vessels and to reclassify container and breakbulk ships. Container lines would enjoy more attractive rates per loaded container on the return voyage, but depending on the utilisation rate. The proposal can be seen here in full, and is open to public comment up to 3 July. New rates would be introduced on 1 October.
