As the strike at Hutchison’s Hong Kong terminals enters day 12, several thousand dock workers marched through the city, with demonstrations also taking place outside the offices of Hutchison Whampoa chairman Li Ka-Shing. It is without doubt one of the most serious labour disputes in Hong Kong’s history, and on current evidence neither side looks like backing down any time soon. The damage to the port, as well as global container supply chains, could eventually be incalculable.
