The famous ship-breaking yard at Alang, in India, has seen workers down tools – not because of the dangers of working there, but because of possible liability for those dangers. Six labourers were killed in a fire on an oil tanker on October 6, and three ship-breakers have subsequently been arrested for ‘culpable homicide’.
