Drewry Maritime Research analyses a proposal from the US Federal Maritime’s Commission to launch a freight rate index for the US export trades. The UK consultancy is in favour of the development, which it says would bring greater transparency to the trade for US shippers, but believes it will be unlikely to overcome opposition from liner shipping lobby groups and importer organisations.
