Intra-Asia trade is booming and not least the movement of part manufactured goods for final assembly and shipment. However, according to DB Schenker, it can take a cargo ship two weeks to make the journey from Penang to Shanghai for instance, thus denting the supply chain. Of course, airfreight takes only two days but is generally uneconomic apart from for the shipping of valuable cargo. A truck can do the job in under a week and the fowarder, seeing a gap in the market, has launched what it calls its “Asia Landbridge”, using its expertise and network of experienced intermodal partners.
