While retailers and manufacturers from developed nations are looking to rearrange their supply chains to promote sales in emerging markets – especially China – it would seem the Chinese prefer to shop elsewhere. According to McKinsey, one third of Chinese luxury market buyers will do their shopping in Europe, where they make up a third of sales, rather than in China. HSBC warned that China’s own luxury shops could become “empty showroooms”.
