Vice president of Flexport’s European operations Jan van Casteren sat down with eDelivery to discuss impending shopping bonanzas Black Friday, Cyber Monday and, of course, Christmas. Mr van Casteren re-emphasised a point that retailers and their logistics providers have doubtless heard countless times: “have a plan in place”. Besides giving a rundown on what causes the peaks and congestion the sales booms lead to, he also proposes several ways retailers can get ahead of the competition and avoid the manic scenes that play out annually on the news. Among his suggestions are for retailers to think like carriers, rank their shipments and give forwarders options.
